POWER PROGRAMS: Cross Over Hoops – Richmond, VA
PROGRAM: Cross-Over Hoops
PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Torrence Archie
LOCATION: Richmond, Virginia
The Philly Face/Off consisted of several high quality teams and well-known programs from different parts of the country. Some Programs were already household names, such as Team Takeover and Exodus NYC, while others made a bigger name for themselves, introducing their Program to the world.
Cross-Over Hoops, in it’s 6th year as a Program, was impressive in the way they competed and the way that they have built their youth travel basketball Program into a Power Program, in such a short time. The Program is run by husband and wife team, Seatra and Torrence Archie. We had a chance to catch up with them shortly after The Philly Face/Off, to get some feedback on their experiences and what The Event meant to their Program.
What brought you guys up from Richmond, to the Philly Face/Off Tournament this year?
“Cross-Over Hoops took a total of six teams to the Philly Face/Off Tournament because of the highly publicized field, stacked with talent and the caliber of the teams participating, in the Event. We were not disappointed!”
Why is it important for you guys to play in the most highly competitive events?
“As a program that is only in its sixth year, our goal is to improve quickly and the ONLY way to do that, is to play in the toughest tournaments and against the best talent. Philly face off, certainly did not disappoint.”
What did you think was the biggest moment of the Philly Face/Off for your Program?
“Cross-Over Hoops, 11th Grade Premier team, was in search of that moment where the team would jell together. This tournament was the turning point for them, as this group of talented players, put their individual accomplishments aside and truly became a TEAM. The most impressive win of the weekend, for us, was our big win over the Nike EYBL Team Exodus, by the score of 67-61, on Sunday afternoon.”
“Where do you think The Philly Face/Off could have done better, with your overall experience?
“For the Philly Face/Off, the Pros definitely out-weighed the Cons for our Cross-Over Hoops Program. The gyms were a little spaced out, making travel difficult at times, when we wanted to support each other’s games. However, that’s largely due to the number of teams that we travel with, in various age groups. Other than that, we really enjoyed our experience at The Philly Face/Off.”
What should we expect to see from Cross-Over Hoops next year?
“Cross-Over Hoops is entering into our 7th year, as a program. We will certainly have plenty of D1 talent on our rosters, next year and beyond. See you all next year.”
Coleman really began to execute like a true Point Guard, during the Philly Face/Off Tournament. This was a turning point for Coleman this season, in terms of being a facilitator. The rest of the team was able to feed off that and flourish because of it. Camarie Gatling (George Mason commit) and Sydnei Archie were the two main recipients of Coleman’s many assists.
2017 Guard Sydnei Archie
Sydnei Archie, coming off two ACL tears, began to settle in and reestablish herself , after 2 years of not playing basketball. She helped by leading her team in rebounds and doing a lot of the dirty work, to help the team get the win.
Mallory Odell gained several fans with her gritty play and hard nosed work ethic. Odell, who is uncommitted, is set to make her decision soon, as to which college she will be attending, in the Fall of 2017.
2018 SG Ayana Scarborough is a feisty, lefty Shooting Guard, with a high motor. The coaches can barely afford to keep her off the floor, due to her high level of activity. We look to see her truly develop next season under Coach Archie! Stay tuned
Up and Coming: 2021 & 2022
Sydney Boone 4’8 PG/SG can stroke the jumper and has tight handles. She has a smaller build but certainly has the skills to make up for that, as she continues to work to improve over the next few seasons.
Shawnise Campbell 5’10 PF/C is a massive rebounder, who also finishes with a soft touch. Campbell rebounds well offensively and defensively. This is only her second year playing high level basketball so she certainly has a bright future. Campbell will work to develop a consistent, mid-range jumper, as she continues on to play and develop.
Lauren McCall 5’9 SF has a nice short jumper and handles the ball well.
Kirah Dandridge 5’8.5 SG is long and rangy. She likes to attack the basket and shoot the long ball. She will need to continue with work on her ball handling.
